A few months after the start of the “Greening the Desert” campaign, the first pivot system can now be run mainly on solar energy: 255 solar panels are producing 85 kWh renewable energy. In addition, the construction of the second pivot plant has begun, which will soon be greening another 50 Feddan of desert land.

The agricultural project is only part of the bigger vision: SEKEM wants to promote sustainable community development and individual potential development in the desert. Hence, art educators have already visited the SEKEM Farm in Wahat El-Bahareyya offering various educational and art activities to the co-workers.

On its desert farm in Wahat El-Bahareyya, SEKEM wants to reclaim 63 hectares of desert land through sustainable agriculture and supported by a crowdfunding campaign.
