Every year, SEKEM organizes a soccer tournament; this year and for the first time, Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development (HU) followed SEKEM’s lead and made its own sports tournament. The sports event includes soccer, table tennis, volleyball and even chess. 132 contestants from all the different departments showed their sportsmanship from the 23rd of June till the 17th of July.
SEKEM does not only organize these tournaments to motivate its community members on leading a healthy proactive lifestyle, and to develop hobbies but also to foster their teamspirit and fun. For one month, after the working hours, the sporty SEKEM and HU staff members change into their team uniform and along with it developed the sense of competition and the eagerness to win.
This kind of events serve as great interactive social hubs for the colleagues within SEKEM’s family to further know each other and form stronger bonds. It is also a positive outlet to people’s inner energies and also to associate the work environment with fun activities and good memories. Just as the SEKEM community members are used to stand together, hand in hand, every morning in the circle to start their working day in a positive vibe, the team members such as Faculty staff members, Professors, or people from the security team, played together in one team; all shared the positive and energetic spirit of sports and enjoyed the games after the working hours.
At the end of the tournament, Helmy Abouleish, CEO of SEKEM, and Dr. Mohamed Yousry, President of Heliopolis University, congratulated all participants and handed over the trophies to the winners. Besides, Dr. Mamdouh Abouleish, Managing Director of SEKEM’s company iSiS Organic for Organic food stuff, rewarded the winning teams with iSiS gift vouchers.
Congratulations to the winning teams; Mahmoud Ibrahim in chess, Haitham Saed in table tennis, Al-Aman team in volleyball, HU staff team in football, and an award for best sportsmanship went to the service team.
