Heliopolis University, ICARDA (International Center for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas) and IWMI (International Water Management Institute) are organizing a webinar on the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought that is celebrated every year on the 17th of June. This day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on January 30, 1995. It is observed every year to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. Cairo’s Heliopolis University wants to discuss solutions, bringing together top players from the field to discuss challenges and opportunities. We will also reflect on the role of gender, biodiversity and international perspectives.
The theme of 2021 Desertification and Drought Day is turning degraded lands into healthy green ones for a better economy. This will improve the economy in different aspects; job creation, higher income, and food security. In addition, it will preserve biodiversity and climate change.
The event is co-promoted by the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification), DeVilag and SureMap.
