Just a few days ago, on 14 August 2025, the world lost Nicanor Perlas, a visionary leader, lifelong activist, and a dear friend of SEKEM’s founder, Dr. Ibrahim Abouleish.
Nicanor devoted his life to sustainability, social transformation, and the empowerment of people working toward a more humane world. Through his lifelong commitment and inspiring vision, he encouraged many to take action for positive change.
In 2003, Nicanor and Ibrahim Abouleish were awarded the Right Livelihood Award, honoring their shared commitment to building communities that embody sustainability and human dignity. Both were working to transform visionary ideas into tangible practices that continue to influence people and societies around the globe.
