Dear reader,
This time we collected a truly varied mix from all corners of the SEKEM spectrum. An agricultural experiment with unknown result turned out pretty successfull. A colorful group in the truest sense of the word experienced Egyptian culture and history through creating art. And we present you our Training Academy that recently started with new courses and the ambitious goal of making SEKEMs employees happy at work.

Last but not least we we want to announce the SEKEM Day in Germany, Stuttgart, taking place on the 17th of June. We are looking forward to seeing many of you there!

Climate protection: YES, it's possible — in Stuttgart as well as in Egypt! The climate crisis affects us all and we are all wondering how we can reduce our CO2 emissions and bind more CO2. "Farmers are climate heroes!" SEKEM, an initiative for sustainable development in Egypt and winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize, has developed an exciting concept.

In May 2023 SEKEM collected the first harvest of wheat at the SEKEM Wahat Farm. The experiment of growing wheat on a total area of 50 feddan (21 ha) brought very good results. The harvest collected was about 1.5 ton per feddan (3.6 ton/ha), which is very satisfactory for the first time.

Inviting interested people, artists or participants from former courses and projects to SEKEM and to experience life here in Egypt artistically together was a long-cherished wish of Art Instructor and Color Designer Petra Rosenkranz. The core idea was to create a space to get up close and personal with the “East” and its very different culture.

"Producers Market" is an online platform that directly connects farmers and producers with the customer and partners with SEKEM. Transparency and trust from soil to sale is their main principle. Amy Schmidt from Producers Market had an inspiring conversation with Maximilian Abouleish for one of their "Producers Stories".

What are Core Program & Training Academy? It all began with the so-called „Core Program“ of Heliopolis University, a compulsory part of all students' curricula. It was created to develop the capacity for innovation, creativity and social responsibility of students and academic staff.
