When my daughter Mariam told me that she wanted to move out of our home to study abroad, my maternal heart hurt, but at the same time I saw the light shining in her that had been ignited in her by her years at school.
|
It shows that she has learned to go her own way independently and freely. With steady belief in her own abilities, she can now take over responsibility for herself and those around her without fear. Unfortunately, this is not a given in Egypt, especially for girls.
|

Not only am I Mariam's mother, but I was also her teacher at the SEKEM school, where we try to touch the children's hearts. With the help of artistic or musical activities, the children learn to listen to their inner selves and craft subjects help them put into practice what they have learned theoretically.
|
|
|
|
Thanks to the SEKEM School, my girls are not afraid of their future, but are pursuing their path with an open heart. Unfortunately, this is not the case for most other children in our village. A varied school day like those at the SEKEM school involves costs that many families in our village find difficult to afford.
|
|
I wish for all children in Egypt to have the opportunity to let the light that lies within them shine!
