Saving the Egyptian Nile Bees!
|
|
|
Together with its partners, SEKEM is working to protect the Egyptian Nile bees, which are threatened with extinction. The Egyptian bee, Apis Mellifera Lamarckij, has been increasingly displaced in recent years due to the severe changes in the cultivated landscape and the extreme use of insecticides: in 1995, there were still around 96,000 colonies, today there are only 900 colonies. In the meantime, SEKEM has been able to increase the population by more than 350 hives.
