Dear reader,
In the middle of the remote Western desert of Egypt, a forest shall be grown. In scorching heat and freezing cold, the local community of SEKEM-Wahat, the new SEKEM-farm over 350 km southwest of Cairo, is working to green the desert and thus making an important contribution to saving the climate.
|
In times of increasing air and water pollution, decreasing biodiversity and the related ever advancing climate change, SEKEM-Wahat offers a solution to these challenges.
|
Why is a forest in the desert important?
|
- Trees sequester CO2.
- Trees protect fields from wind and pesticide drift.
- Trees significantly support organic agriculture.
- Trees promote biodiversity.
- Trees provide shade.
Did you know that a person in Germany produces about 30 kg of CO2 per day? That is about 11 t per year! Under ideal conditions, one tree in the Egyptian desert sequesters 30 kg of CO2 per year: A person living in Germany would therefore have to plant one tree per day in SEKEM-Wahat to compensate for his or her annual CO2 consumption.
|
Make your personal contribution to climate protection now and plant a forest with us!
|
I wish you a wonderful Christmas season!
